Once Upon a Prize

   In one of the regional awards, the contestants were from more than 15 countries where the Easterns had English as a second language while the Westerns' second language was French, as one of the juries I came across a candidate from the West wing, the applicant wrote by hand the fill-in part (difficult to read), but the supporting evidence were typed in French as reports, articles, and documentaries. It was like a puzzle to all jury members, so the grades given were low. I felt that there was something very valuable but I couldn’t capture it, my French didn’t help me much in finding what I felt, but after limited translation assistance and revisits to the application, I could figure it out. The underlying practice was really excellent, after reconciliations with the other jury members he was chosen as the winner. Poor Excellent People

  What a million-dollar prize can do, and represents to the life of an excellent scientist, and how an earned reputable award can make him so happy and proud of his work. Many Inventors, Scientists, Schoolers, Innovators, artists, and other excellent human beings, lived and died poor and maybe unrecognized or unknown. Most of those excellent people are not wealthy, or handsomely paid. Their contributions to advancement and progressive civilizations are indisputable, yet they did not enjoy the merits of their achievements, lead a decent luxurious life, nor a wealth well deserved. Srinivasa Ramanujan an Indian mathematician who died in April 1920, is a very sad example, his research and discoveries were brilliant and essential to many later-on scientific advancements, he was born poor, lived miserably, and died as a tuberculosis patient in his home Indian village at the age of 33.
