In one of the regional awards, the contestants were from more than 15 countries where the Easterns had English as a second language while the Westerns' second language was French, as one of the juries I came across a candidate from the West wing, the applicant wrote by hand the fill-in part (difficult to read), but the supporting evidence were typed in French as reports, articles, and documentaries. It was like a puzzle to all jury members, so the grades given were low. I felt that there was something very valuable but I couldn’t capture it, my French didn’t help me much in finding what I felt, but after limited translation assistance and revisits to the application, I could figure it out.
